    BEHRINGER Tech Talk #01: S16 and X32

    Hi Guys,

We have been shipping S16 digital snakes for the past few months and have received many questions in regards to setup and configuration. The goal of this thread is to get you up and running with your X32 and S16 stage boxes.

Below are the steps to hook up your X32 and S16, to be a 16 input x 8 output digital system. Your output configuration will give you 6 available monitor mixes plus the two outputs needed for your MAIN L/R.

We will also go over a dual S16 setup for a total of 32 input x 16 output.

Setting up the X32 to connect to (1) S16 Digital Snake:

To set your first 16 inputs from the S16: Press the ROUTING button and set your first 16 inputs to the AES50 A inputs from the HOME tab. (Example: AES50 A1-8, AES50 A9-16,) Your first 16 inputs will now come from the S16.

To set your 6 “Monitor Mix” outputs: Page over to the ANALOG OUT tab and set your first 6 outputs to correlate to the first 6 Mix Buses which can be found under the Output Signal column. (Example: Output 01 is set to MixBus 01 etc.).

To set your MAIN L/R outputs: Scroll to Output 7 under the Analog Output column and set it to “Main L” and set Output 8 to “Main R”.

Connect the CAT5 cable from the AES50 A port on the X32 to the AES50 A port on the S16.

Setting up the S16 Digital Snake

    S16 (Input ch.1-16 / Outputs 1-8)
Hold down the CONFIG button and turn the SELECT/ADJUST rotary knob to the left until there are no LED indicators on the routing display panel, and the digital readout displays as 1-8. Release the CONFIG button.

To confirm that the S16 has been successfully connected to the X32: On the S16 the A Port LED indicator will be green. On the X32, in the connection display window, the “A” row will say “S16”.

You are now ready to use the X32 and S16 as a full digital system.

Setting up the X32 to connect to (2) S16 Digital Snake:

To set your 32 inputs from the connected S16 stage boxes: Press the ROUTING button and set your 32 inputs to the AES50 A inputs from the HOME tab. (Example: AES50 A1-8, AES50 A9-16, etc.) Your first 32 inputs will now come from the S16 stage boxes.

To set your “Monitor Mix” outputs: Page over to the ANALOG OUT tab and set up to 14 “Mix Outputs” to correlate to the Mix Buses which can be found under the Output Signal column. (Example: Output 01 is set to MixBus 01, etc).

To set your MAIN L/R outputs: Scroll to Output 15 under the Analog Output column and set it to “Main L” and set Output 16 to “Main R”.

Connect the CAT5 cable from the AES50 A port on the X32 to the AES50 A port on the first S16. Plug another cable from the first S16 AES50 B port into the AES50 A port of the second S16.

Setting up the (2) S16 Digital Snakes

    S16 #1 (Input ch.1-16 / Outputs 1-8)
Hold down the CONFIG button and turn the SELECT/ADJUST rotary knob to the left until there are no LED indicators on the routing display panel, and the digital readout displays as 1-8. Release the CONFIG button.

    S16 #2 (Input ch.17-32 / Output 9-16)
Hold down the CONFIG button and turn the SELECT/ADJUST rotary knob to the left until the red LED indicator is at the OUT +8 position and the digital readout displays as 9-16. Release the CONFIG button.

To confirm that the S16 has been successfully connected to the X32: On the S16 the A Port LED indicator will be green. On the X32, in the connection display window, the “A” row will say “S16+”.

You are now ready to use the X32 and S16 as a full digital system.
