i am helping a church in upgrading there lighting system and they don't have that much money to go out and buy and ETC rig, my question, are the LD6230 dimmers very reliable for churches?

Yes, the LD6230 will be great for any church application! You can control it either digitally using its DMX512 interface or analog by using the additional 8-pole DIN connector.
