We have been using a X2442USB as the mixer for our rehearsals and live shows. During the live shows we have been using USB out to record the mains, fairly successfully. At some of our smaller venues, we do not always mic the amps for our guitars, because they would be too loud if they went through the mains and the PA. This leads to the guitars being too quite and weak on the recording.
So my question is, is there a way to have a channel on the mixer (say to mic a guitar amp) that is routed for recording but does not get routed to the PA? Ideally we would like to continue to use the USB for recording, but switching to analogue is an option.
Currently we use sub group 1-2 and send them to our stage monitors. Sub group 3 is used for FX.
I was thinking that we could:
- Assign all of our channels that we want to record to sub group 3-4
- Unassign the channel we do not want on the PA from sub group 1-2 and main
- Pan that channel hard right (so it is only on sub group 4)
- Attach a recording device to sub group outputs 4 and 8
But I am not sure if this is the ideal solution to our problem. And like I said earlier, we would prefer to record off USB and not analogue.
Any input or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!
