UCG102/EnergyXT/ACCombo

Hey all,

A while back I bought a UCG102 USB Guitar interface, It came packaged with trial versions of EnergyXT recording software and NI ACCombo Guitar Amp simulator software.

I originally bought the UCG102 for use as a portable USB Soundcard and figured someday I'd play with the guitar input.

Later I started using the EnergyXT with my existing soundcards (two m-audio delta 1010lt cards) and set it up to record sixteen simutanous tracks (it's a lot simpler to use then my previous software).

ANYWAY, I had some time off last week and started playing with UCG102 and ACCombo software, no problems setting that up, guitar into the UCG102, cool Amp sounds coming out of the UCG102.......

So then I set the UCG102 as the recording device in my EnergyXT, thinking I could then record some tracks using the ACCombo, but all I get is the "clean" guitar input from the UCG102 and not the Amp sounds from the ACCombo software. I'm assuming it's some kind of routing issue, but I can't seem to pin down where/how I route the output of the ACCombo software back to an input in the EnergyXT.

Anybody out there have experience with this?

Hi John,

Thank you for purchasing the UCG102 and Energy XT. That is still a great selling product, and many users have liked it since it came out a few years ago.

The NI ACCombo Guitar Amp simulator software which is made by Native Instruments, does not record the fx. It always records only the clean sound so that you can apply different fx after the fact. This is how they have designed it, and it has not changed in the NI ACCombo Guitar Amp simulator software. This is an advantage for some users, and not favorable for others. Some users have just recorded the output of the UCG102 to another recording device, which will also record the fx. The UCG102 will also work with other guitar amp simulation software, which will not have this limitation.

You can also apply plug in fx using the Energy XT software.

First of all create a VST folder in your program files directory like this:

C:\Program Files\VSTplugins

Then drag the dll files into that folder (you can sub categorize them if you wish)

Next open up Energy XT and go to FILE->SETUP->BROWSER->then click on “plugins”. Click on add to then add your VSTplugin folder that created earlier.

Now when you click on the plugins icon in the software’s main screen you will see the plugins that you added. To add them to your sequence drag the plugin over into track section. This will automatically create an instrument track with the plugin loaded into it.

Thanks for your input.... I think this is what I was looking for when I said a "routing issue".
I've not tried using a VST before and was unsure how to go about it.

When I drag the plugin into the track section, it creates an instrument track just as you described, But......
the track is connected to the midi in and not my audio in from the UCG102, I can go to modular view and disconnect it from the Midi, but I cannot connect it to the audio, not sure why this is?????

I have found though, that I can go to the mixer view and drag the plugin into the insert box of my audio input and I get the results I'm looking for...

Hi John,

Please excuse the late reply.

You can record audio tracks with your guitar or a mic. The instrument tracks need a midi keyboard or midi guitar to be able to play the synth plugins on Energy XT2.

OKAY.......

Well, you knew from the start that I was trying to figure out how to get the ACCombo sounds into EnergyXT from my UCG102,
nowhere did I mention that I was trying to do anything MIDI, BUT, you are the one who led me down the "Instrument Track" path.

None the less, as I said in my last post, I figured out how to put the plugin into the audio path using the "insert" on a channel strip in Mixer view.
