Virtulizer 2024P Bank switching with FCB1010

I'm running a Virtulizer 2024P via a FCB1010.

All seems to be working fine, I can assign FX to the pedals. but...

It appears I need to send a controller change via the FCB1010 to the FX unit in order to start using the User Banks instead of the Inbuilt FX always defaulted to.

I have read the manual... and tried advice found online but im really struggling to switch to the 'U001'+ bank.

I would really appreciate a step by step bespoke guide for the FCB1010 and 2024P.

Dear John,

To access the user presets on your DSP2024 with your FCB1010 is quite simple. In addition to the program change number that you assigned with one of the first five pedals, you will need to program a control change with pedals 6 or 7.

Here is how you would do it on the FCB1010:

1. Select the preset you would like to edit.

2. Press the down button for 2-3 seconds, to enter the preset configuration mode.

3. The green LED for switch 1-2 will flash now. If you want to use the relay switches in this preset, you can activate/deactivate them by pressing pedal 1 and/or 2. Once set, press enter ("UP") to confirm.

4. The green select LED will now light up, together with those red LED's which determine which MIDI commands are to be transmitted when you select this preset. You should have at least one PROG CHG pedal (pedals 1 through 5) lit which is programmed with the number of the preset you wish to use.

5. Press pedal 6 (or 7) short. The red LED in the selected pedal will start to flash now. Confirm with enter ("UP").

6. Input "0" for the control change number for bank change. Confirm with enter ("UP").

7. For the second parameter input "0" to select the bank of internal presets (I.001 through I.100) or "1" to select the bank of user settings (U.001 through U.100). Enter to confirm.

8. When all values have been entered, leave the preset configuration by pressing the down button for 2-3 seconds. Your preset is stored now.

Hi Chris....

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I am just back from a sound trial.

We tested out the Virtualizer 2024P with a Sax and a Trumpet on each channel. We found the Preset Ultra Chorus of great value plus the Pitch setting at -12 semitones mixed at 50% .... so its going to be great to be able to switch between them both.

Looking forward to setting this up.

Yes... this light flashes... I have not clicked on pedal 1 or 2... I pressed UP

But I want pedal 10 to switch the Virtualizer to use the User Banks, not... 1. ?

I pressed Pedal 6 for a short time and nothing happened.

No... Pedal 10 is not switching the Virtualizer banks for me.

No, you only need 1 MIDI cable from the FCB1010 output to the DSP2024P MIDI input.

(Remember, once you're in preset configuration mode, all of the pedals are used to program preset 10. pedals 1-5 are for program changes, pedals 6 and 7, control changes, 8 and 9 expression pedals, 10 MIDI note messages)

3. The green LED for switch 1-2 will flash now. If you want to use the relay switches in this preset, you can activate/deactivate them by pressing pedal 1 and/or 2. Once set, press enter ("UP") to confirm.

(You do need to select pedal 1 or 2 to activate/deactivate, before pressing up to go to the next step. You're not using this, so deactivate it)

4. The green select LED will now light up, together with those red LED's which determine which MIDI commands are to be transmitted when you select this preset. You should have at least one PROG CHG pedal (pedals 1 through 5) lit which is programmed with the number of the preset you wish to use.

(Before you move on to programming the control change on this preset, this is assuming you have already programmed the program change command. see *** below)

You mentioned "1, 8 and 9 have lit up, that's all." This means there is a program change command programmed for slot 1 in this preset, and there is expression pedal data for both expression pedals A and B. But there is no Control change data programmed into slot 6 or 7 yet.

5. Press pedal 6 (or 7) short. The red LED in the selected pedal will start to flash now. Confirm with enter ("UP").

6. Input "0" for the control change number for bank change. Confirm with enter ("UP").

The FCB will send out the following MIDI commands per preset (there are 100 available in the FCB):
Program Change (5)
MIDI Controller (2)
MIDI Continuous Controller/Expression Pedal (2)
MIDI Note (1)
If your unit can accept these commands, it should work well...

YOU MUST TRANSMIT FCB1010 MESSAGES/COMMANDS ON THE SAME MIDI CHANNEL AS THE DEVICE BEING CONTROLLED IS RECEIVING MESSAGES/COMMANDS ON IN ORDER TO SEE/HEAR ANY CHANGE ON THE DEVICE BEING CONTROLLED!!!

Getting a MIDI message to transmit on a specific MIDI channel.
For example, getting the MIDI Message programmed into Expression Pedal "A" to transmit on MIDI Channel #1:
-Power up FCB while holding down the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to enter GLOBAL SETUP MODE
-Press ENTER
-Press EXP A pedal #8
-Press ENTER
-Use the pedals to program in "0" and "1" to set the MIDI Channel for transmission of all Expression Pedal A information to MIDI Channel #1
-Press ENTER
-Press the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to exit GLOBAL SETUP MODE
You have now programmed the FCB1010 to send out any/all Expression Pedal A commands on MIDI Channel #1.

This same MIDI Channel assignment/theory described above applies to all of the message types sent by the FCB1010 - MIDI Program Change, MIDI Control, Expression Pedal, and MIDI Note commands/messages. Simply substitute the appropriate message in the third step above.
For example, getting the MIDI Message programmed into MIDI Note pedals to transmit on MIDI Channel #16:
-Power up FCB while holding down the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to enter GLOBAL SETUP MODE
-Press ENTER
-Press MIDI NOTE pedal #10
-Press ENTER
-Use the pedals to program in "1" and "6" to set the MIDI Channel for transmission of all MIDI Note information to MIDI Channel #16
-Press ENTER
-Press the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to exit GLOBAL SETUP MODE
You have now programmed the FCB1010 to send out any/all MIDI Note commands on MIDI Channel #16.

Programming a MIDI Program Change command (typically used for changing banks, presets, etc.):
In this example, a program change command of "001" is being programmed into FCB preset #01:
Select the pedal/preset on the FCB1010 you wish to program... For example:
If you are working in DIRECT SELECT ENABLED mode = press pedal number "0" and then "1" to start programming preset #01

Select the pedal/preset on the FCB1010 you wish to program... For example:
If you are working in DIRECT SELECT ENABLED mode = press pedal number "0" and then "1" to start programming preset #01
If you are working in DIRECT SELECT DISABLED mode = this same preset number (#01 in this example) would be accessed by pressing the UP pedal until "00" is in the display, then pressing pedal "1" (in DIRECT SELECT DISABLED MODE)
-Power up FCB
-Press the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to enter PRESET PROGRAMMING MODE
-Press ENTER (UP)
-Press pedal #6 until it lights solid (skip this step if it is already lit)
-Press the #6 again briefly until it flashes

You can program a MIDI Controller Message into Pedal 7 as well... The message number and value number above is an example. The exact numbers will depend on the MIDI Implementation Chart (information in the manual) for the device you are trying to control, and what parameter you are trying to change (e.g. delay off, FX on, etc.)

Programming Expression Pedal B (expression pedal messages are typically used for volume or "wah" pedal control, etc.):
In this example, the Expression Pedal is being programmed using a MIDI Control number of 14, and a value range of 0-127. Let's assume - for example only - that MIDI Control number 14 corresponds to a "wah pedal" control on the device being controlled by the FCB1010 (the actual parameter this MIDI Control message will control is determined by the receiving device's MIDI Implementation...)
Select the pedal/preset on the FCB1010 you wish to program... For example:
If you are working in DIRECT SELECT ENABLED mode = press pedal number "0" and then "1" to start programming preset #01
If you are working in DIRECT SELECT DISABLED mode = this same preset number (#01 in this example) would be accessed by pressing the UP pedal until "00" is in the display, then pressing pedal "1" (in DIRECT SELECT DISABLED MODE)
-Power up FCB
-Press the DOWN pedal for over 2 seconds to enter PRESET PROGRAMMING MODE
-Press ENTER (UP)
-Press the EXP B pedal #9 until it lights solid (skip this step if it is already lit)
-Press the EXP B pedal #9 again briefly until it flashes
-Press ENTER (UP)
-Use the pedals to program in "1" and "4" for "14" in the display
