    Output x32 to 4 speakers for a more balanced room sound

    Hello everyone,

    We are using Behringer x32 and currently output to two main FOH speakers (left and right). Because our room is a rectangular shape we would like to put two more speakers in the middle of the room (another left and right). Our hope is that with 4 speakers we can adjust the volume so that the sound in the room will be more balance as the front 2 speakers will not have to be too loud for people who sit in the front as we will have the two (middle of the room) speakers to help enforce the sound for people sitting at the back. Can anyone give us a good suggestion as to how to go about doing sound this way? Currently output 14/15 is for the front speakers. Do we just assign other outputs such as 12 and 13 to the other two amplified speakers?

    You can assign two more outputs to main, and set the relative levels between the two sets by adjusting the speaker inputs, or you can go via the matrix and have individual control of speaker levels at the mixer.
    In both cases you would want to set delays to output 12 and 13

    I would suggest using the Matrix - what you ask is exactly what the matrix is designed to do. Refer to section 5.13 in the manual to set up the matrix. Set the delay time in the Routing section - just measure the distance between the speakers and set the X32 to your measurements - the X32 will do the rest. Now you have complete individual control of the second speakers and the delay is set correctly.

    I want to take this one step further and use the X32 as a loudspeaker management system. Seems like it would work. I have 4 Yorkville Paraline Array speakers, and Paraline Subs. It would stand to reason that using matrixes and some eq filtering and delays, and I could set up the system to work properly without having to buy an expensive loudspeaker management system.

    Hello,
    Although some prefer to handle this task with external processing (such as our DCX2496 Loudspeaker Management System), you can certainly do this on the X32 by sending you Main LR mix to multiple Matrix Mixes as you described. If you are working in stereo, you can link a pair of Matrix Mixes together to maintain the stereo image. Remember when using Matrix Mixes that you will have to assign them to Outputs as they do not have any assigned by default. Also if you haven't already, be sure to update your console to firmware 1.10 if you are going to try this. We have added Crossover modes to the Matrix Parametric EQs which could come in handy for those Subs.
