Behringer X V-Amp problems

My Behringer X V-Amp has not worked since E2 appeared on the display. At the time I had just pulled the power adapter plug out of the back and put it back in, I cannot remember why I dId this at the time but am aware that this is what could have locked the pedal, assuming it is locked and the problem is the pedal and not my lack of understanding of how it works. The original power supply for this was missing so I had to buy a replacement which I got hold of from Digidave on line, which he sells for this particular pedal this has the same specifications as the original accept it is 1.5A which I believe is equivalent to 1500Ma, the pedal needs 600Ma, thus before using it I checked with the company and they said the pedal draws the power so it is not a problem is the adapter is over 600Ma as long as the voltage and other specs are the same. The pedal worked for about 20 minutes using this power supply before I done what I stated above so I assume the problem is not down to the power supply. Can anyone help please. Regards AndyX

Hello Andy,

First, try the reset procedure for your X V-amp. Press the STORE and TAP keys together during power on. After the reset is successful, the display will show a “0”.

If you are unable to get your X V-amp working properly, I recommend getting the unit back to your dealership for an exchange if that option is still available to you. Modifying and storing an effect preset
In this example, we’ll set up the X V-AMP with a configuration to use the headphone amp, using ‘neutral EQ’ and with speaker/amp simulations. Next we’ll select preset ‘7’, modify settings, add use of the expression pedal to control effect amount, and store the modified preset into memory.

Selecting a configuration mode and global volume and input gain levels:
In this example, we’ll use a configuration that allows for use of the headphone output with a FLAT: Neutral EQ, and the ability to hear the changes we make to speaker/amp simulations.
- Press the NOISE G. and COMPR. Buttons at the same time to make them both flash, then press on either button to select configuration ‘P1’.
- Use the ADJUST knob to select the global output volume while listening through headphones.
- Press the TAP button and use the ADJUST knob to set the input gain level to work with your particular instrument.
- Press the NOISE G. and COMPR. Buttons at the same time to exit this mode.

Selecting the preset to be altered:
Turn on power to the X V-AMP, and use the UP and/or DOWN buttons to select preset ‘7’.

Selecting an amp simulation:
Press and hold the TAP button while turning the FX/AMPS knob (the 2nd FUNCTION LED will be lit) to select ‘V-AMP CRUNCH’ (the lettering will be in grey).

Adjusting Compression ratio:
Press the COMP. button to make it flash, then use the ADJUST knob to set the desired compression ratio.

Adjusting the Noise Gate Threshold and Release:
Press the NOISE G. button to make it flash, and then turn the ADJUST knob to set the ‘THRESHOLD’ point for the Noise Gate.
Press and hold the TAP button while turning the ADJUST knob to set the Noise Gate ‘RELEASE’.

Selecting a modulation effect and adjusting three effect parameters:
1. Press the MODUL. button to make it flash, and the LED in the FX portion of the FX/AMPS knob dial will also flash.
2. If you turn the FX/AMPS knob at this point you can choose between CHORUS, PHASERS, ROTARY or AUTO WAH effects, or you can press and hold the TAP button while you turn the FX/AMPS knob to choose between FLANGERS, TREMOLOS, PITCH BEND, or P-FUNK’D effects. In this case, we’ll use the TAP button and FX/AMPS knob to choose ‘FLANGERS’ (the 2nd FUNCTION LED will be lit while you are doing this).
3. We’ll now adjust the ‘SPEED’, and you do this by pressing the TAP button several times to create a ‘beat’ that the unit will use to set the speed of the Flanger effect.
4. Turn the ADJUST knob to determine the effect ‘ratio’ in the preset.
5. Press and hold the TAP button while turning the ADJUST knob to set the second effect parameter, which is ‘resonance’ (Flanger effect feedback to the original signal).
6. For the third parameter adjustment, press and hold the TAP and MODUL. buttons while turning the ADJUST knob to chose between the four possible Flanger effect ‘models’ available. We’ll choose model ‘2’ for this purpose (details are in sec. 6 of the manual).
7. Press the MODUL. button to quit modulation effect programming.

Selecting a Delay effect and adjusting parameters:
- Press the DELAY button to make it flash, and turn the FX/AMPS knob to select ‘ST. DELAY’ (Stereo Delay).
- Press on the TAP button several times with a steady ‘beat’ to set the Delay speed.
- Turn the ADJUST knob to modify the ‘mix’ of original signal with the Delay effect.
- Press and hold the TAP button while turning the ADJUST knob to set the amount of Delay feedback.
- Press the DELAY button to leave Delay programming.

Selecting a Reverb effect and adjusting parameters:
- Press the REVERB button to make it flash, then press and hold the TAP button while turning the FX/AMPS knob to select ‘SPRING’ Reverb (in grey lettering).
- Use the ADJUST knob to determine the mix with Spring Reverb versus ‘dry’ signal.
- Press and hold the TAP button and turn the ADJUST knob to set the Spring Reverb effect feedback level.
- Press the REVERB button to leave this part of effect programming.

Adjusting the PRESENCE (high frequency) level:
- Press the MODUL. and DELAY buttons at the same time to make them both flash.
- Use the ADJUST knob to determine the PRESENCE level in the mix.
- Press and hold the TAP button while turning the ADJUST knob to select the center frequency of the filter use for PRESENCE.
- Press the MODUL. and DELAY buttons briefly to exit the PRESENCE level of programming.

Adjusting BASS EQ settings:
- Briefly press the COMPR. And MODUL. buttons at the same time to make them flash.
- Use the ADJUST knob to determine the level of low frequencies.
- Press and hold the TAP button and use the ADJUST knob to affect the deepest frequencies (to the Left) or higher bass frequencies (to the Right).
- Briefly press the COMP. And MODUL. buttons at the same time to exit programming.

Assigning use of the Expression Pedal to control FLANGER effect intensity:
- Press the DELAY and REVERB buttons at the same time to make ‘PA’ (for Pedal Assign) appear in the display.
- Press the MODUL. button to make it flash, then turn the ADJUST knob, and you will see the EFFECT LED in the display area flash.
- Press the DELAY and REVERB buttons at the same time to exit the Pedal Assign function.

Storing the new settings into a preset location:
- Press the NOISE G. and COMP. buttons to make preset ‘7’ appear in the display, and the STORE LED will be lit.
- Press and hold the STORE button for about two seconds and the new settings you’ve created will now be part of preset ‘7’.

Note: This guide serves as a general example to help you get started, and there are other controls and connections that would be used when using different configuration modes or effects.


Calibration procedure

1. Start the calibration with the pedal fully open (heel down)
2. Press and hold the keys "Delay" and "Reverb" together.
3. Keep these two keys held down and reconnect the power supply plug.
4. On start up, the display will show "PU" - which means "Pedal upper"
Gently move the pedal fully forward (closed) until it reaches the end of its travel. The display will now read "PL". (Caution - there is no need to apply too much pressure)
5. Gently move the pedal backwards (open) until the rubber pad rests against the casing. The display will now show "PU" (pedal upper). If the display doesn’t read ‘PU’ at this point, it is likely that you can get this to appear by gently pulling back on the pedal by hand until ‘PU’ does appear
6. Move the pedal forward again, and confirm the calibration and return to the normal operating menu by activating the pedal switch (press down hard on the end of the pedal)
7. The X V-AMP will re-initialize itself, but the original settings will not be overwritten.
