Thread: X32 Sync Link

    X32 Sync Link

I'm more active on the Sound forum site, but just wanted to notify fellow x32ers of my project to enable a master and slave system for 2 x32s, so here is a copy of my recent post.......

I am pleased to announce that I now have a functioning beta version of my X32 Sync Link app.

This allows 2 X32's (any 2 of the family) to be linked together so that one acts as a master and the other as a slave (In effect a mirror)
By connecting via AES50 and Ethernet, it is possible replicate console changes between both devices and also configure parameters.

One big challenge has been how gain and trim are treated. With some great advice and crazy calculations from Per and initial OSC support from Kev Hunter I have been able to overcome this (Thanks guys!). By adjusting the 'trim' on the slave the gain on the master adjusts and then adjusts the trim on the slave accordingly so that all metering, compression etc mirrors the master.

You can initially sync the desks via the software or by pressing the 'Remote' button on the appropriate desk, which will also force a sync from one console to another. An alternative way is to backup the master's state to USB and restore on the slave.

I am just finalising a few bits such as how all the FX processor parameters are handled and a little around the scribble strip text sync.
Also I will add in a few options such as whether layer changes are replicated, screen views, LCD brightness etc.....

I will release the beta version over the next couple of days for anyone lucky enough to have a couple of X32's to play with. My plan is to put an initial time limit on the app (say 10 mins), purely to ensure that no one uses in a live event situation at this point. However, after some further testing (another week or so) and following any feedback I will then release version one which will be without any limitation what so ever. This will be a free app for anyone to benefit from.

A pc is required to run the small app. Testing indicates a wired connection to your router may be better rather than wireless, but this is still in development.

    So, watch this space.

    Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for all your effort on this endeavor. This is huge. Unfortunately I don't have more than one X32 to play with it. But there are a number of members here that either have, or will soon have 2 or more.

    Hey Mark,

Thanks. I guess I'll be one of those that will play with your app as my 2nd X32 comes in next week.
Great to hear this news. Where can I find the beta version?
Looking forward to the final version too.

    Blessings

    Hi Vaisil,

I've updated it a little following a recent production when I was able to fully run the 2 in a live situation.

I have upgraded to the latest firmware 1.15 on the desk need to check the changes to the digital trim which I will do when I get both desks out at the weekend. Before the update the trim changes on the slave changed to master gain perfectly. I assume it should still work (it didn't when 1 desk was 1.13 and the other was 1.15 - But that was expected).

I've removed the limitation, but it's still in beta until I get the FX part fully working.

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks.
My apologies for getting back on the forum this late.
The update and removal of the limitation is great news. I'll start downloading the file.

We had a small issue with the shipping of the 2e console as it was shipped to a "wrong" address......well.... our former freight forwarder, but it has already been taken care off. (console is in their warehouse since tuesday)
Hope to get it this weekend or at the latest early next week.

Anyway we did a conference this week running 22 ch's from the floor, 6 ch's from interpreters in 3 booths routed to 3 transmitters, covering 4 languages, monitoring thru P16-M's in the booths and feeding a stereo JBL/QSC soundsystem.

Guess what......who was the "Badboy" around.......yes our X32.

Not a use most would expect, but this babe enabled us to route the signals easy with minimal cables.
Dynamics, eq & 48v on all ch's were doing their thing and helped a lot as well as graphic eq we used for room correction.
Now the scribble strip was the secret revealer for an issue we had at the start. Something happened while we weren't there. Can't point a finger, but all interpreters mic ch's were shifted to the first booth out.......mmmmhh....strange.....
But it was easily solved.(manually reconfigured)

Oh yeah I've upgraded to firmware 1.15 on this one and when the second one arrives, I'll do the same with that, so there won't be any discrepancies.

I've just updated this little app to deal with +-18db trim changes in the latest firmware. I use this app frequently now and other than some detailed work to complete regarding the fx section, it works a treat.
The lastest version is 0.7 and can be downloaded from http://www.skylightsound.co.uk/uploa..._sync_link.zip

Curious how you're using this? Is this duplicating the Yamaha style linking where one desk would be at FOH and one at monitors? Or are you mirroring as a failover?

    Hi George,

Basically I have the main x32 in the sound position. Most of the venues I deal with either chuck me at the side at the back of the auditorium or in a sound box. Neither has the best sound position. So with this app I can sit slap bang in the middle of the auditorium for the tech and dress operating the 2nd desk as a slave. It basically mirrors the master desk so I can operate in the prime position. Also means that I have a back up desk in the event of any problems during the proper performances. It's been great when I've been training a couple of people as I can sit at the side of the with the slave desk allowing them to 'run' a show with me taking over when needed without pushing them out of the way!

Just used the app tonight and noticed that I might not like the auto LAN address check I have written in when you us an XP machine to run the app on. I'll release an update next week and put the original settings back in.

Anyway been using the app tonight no problem. I must upload photo or 2 to show how this works!!

    M
